Hi, Mr. Belt & Wezol! 2014 has ended now. How was the year for you?
Bart (Mr. Belt): Hey guys! We had an amazing year! Our first release on Spinnin’ Records plus three other releases on Spinnin’ and Musical Freedom. And a lot of gigs of course, we’re ready for 2015!
You have years of experience as a producer and DJ. How did your career start?
Sam (Wezol): My career as a DJ actually began in my bedroom. I was wondering how dance music, which was being played more and more on the radio, was made. So I looked it up on the internet and got my first music making program at the age of 12. Of course I was the worst producer ever at that point, so I kept on practicing and at a certain point I felt I was good enough to start putting my music out. The bookings then came from there.
Bart (Mr. Belt): With a lot of DJing in my hometown Delft! I was organizing parties seven years ago so I could give myself a spot in the line-up!
How did you meet each other?
Bart (Mr. Belt): I booked Sam for a gig a few years ago, we kept in contact over the years and in the summer of 2013 we went to a lot of festivals. This is where our mutual love for UK house was born.
You’ve collaborated with Oliver Heldens. How did you get into these collaboration?
Sam (Wezol): When we put out our remix of Wildchild’s ‘Renegade Master’ he sent us a message on Facebook saying he really liked the song. We got to talk and planned a studio session shortly after!
How was the song Pikachu born?
Sam (Wezol): I was watching the first episode of Pokémon some day, the one where Ash meets Pikachu for the first time, and realized that the audience which goes clubbing right now is also the audience who knows Pikachu. So if there’s ever going to be a Pikachu track it should be now. Shortly after I wrote the melody, and completely coincidental I had a studio session with Olivier the next day. I showed some projects and this one came up, we decided to continue the project together.
How did your relationship with Spinnin’ Records first start?
Sam (Wezol): Olivier showed the Renegade Master bootleg on Spinnin’ HQ and gave them our e-mail. They sent us an e-mail and two days later we were at their office and showing them some new tracks. They immediately signed our track Shiver and offered us a MGMT and publishing deal.
What’s your most memorable gig?
Bart (Mr. Belt): That would be our performance at Glow In The Dark in Rotterdam, end of 2014. Lovely crowd and lovely venue.
Craziest fan you have ever met?
Bart (Mr. Belt): We haven’t met any crazy fans yet, hopefully it stays that way!
What is your dream or mission at the moment career-wise?
Sam (Wezol): Nothing really, we just want to continue bringing out great music! That’s it!
Would you like to share one reveal to your fans? And finally, what to expect from you during 2015?
Bart (Mr. Belt): One reveal… hmmm.. Did you know Sam can touch his nose with his tongue? That’s pretty crazy, isn’t it? And what to expect, that’s easy; more music, more videos and more Mr. Belt & Wezol!
